Alarm Clock For Slumberous Souls

Can't get out of bed in the morning? Here's a solution. The Aphelion is an alarm clock especially designed for slumberous souls. The clock launches a ball in the room once the set alarm sounds, forcing the user to get out of the bed and place the retrieved ball back in the spot to reactivate the snooze feature.

Not really a new idea. There's a helicopter one that follows the same idea. It launches a model helicopter that must be retrieved and replaced in order to turn off the alarm.

However it won't work. I found that no matter how far I placed the alarm from the bed and how difficult it was to switch off the alarm there were days I would still get back into bed. Even when I put the clock on top of the wardrobe so I had to get a chair from another room to switch it off.

First thing I thought when I read it was:"Got to get me one!"....and then I read Gareths post :-( I have a little hope wintertime is doing me a bit good...really could use an extra hour.

Is there something physiologically different about us snoozers, or are we just lazy?

I'd like to see a study done, but only if it proves the former.

No, us snoozers (yes, me too) are not just lazy. It's in our genes. Scientists have recently discovered that genetics may play a role in sleep dependence. A circadian-rhythm gene called period3 is involved.

Period3 has already been found to affect a person's sleep habits and determines whether someone is a 'night owl' or a 'morning lark.'

Period3 comes in two variants, long and short, and it seems us snoozers have the long period3s.
