Did you notice that many of the carpets in the hotels and casinos in Las Vegas are incredibly garish? Why is that? Swedish photographer Chris Maluszynski was surprised too.
Until he realized that they had a purpose - to stop the punters feeling sleepy because sleepy tourists don't
spend money. If your eyes stray to the floor and see one of these monstrosities, you are likely to be jolted awake again.

I love this picture! Also, casinos in Vegas are very dark. They are huge indoor spaces, acres and acres of tables, games and bars, with no natural light. Anything that is not garish will appear dark and/or invisible. It is also impossible to know the time, but I that is quite common in drinking places anyway, non?
They're just being practical. Dirt and stains are less noticeable with busy patterns.
I also read somewhere that the carpeting has a wild print to hid any chips you may have dropped. The cleaning staff probably vacuum up a bundle.
