The brief story of a group of rare albino or
'white' deer, some call them 'ghost deer,' clustered in North Central Wisconsin. Nobody completely understands how they got there or why they persist.
But a nature photographer John Richter has created a book called 'White Deer: Ghosts In The Forest,' that celebrates these amazing animals. He discovered that they have seem to have been there for ages, are subject of Native American legends and are mentioned in journals of European explorers.

Oh, Gerard, I wish you'd found a different picture of white deer to put up with this post... The one you chose is of Fallow Deer, which are often white, spotted, brown, or black. Unlike the deer in the piece you linked to which seem to be white-tail deer, which are rarely anything but brown and never have palmated antlers.
I agree with what Erin said. If you'd like to see a picture of an albino deer from northern Wisconsin, here's one I took last summer.
