Harbin celebrates its 26th year of entertaining visitors with stunning ice sculptures. The Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival was first held in 1963, but was halted during the Cultural Revolution, then revived in 1985. It is one of the largest ice and snow festivals in the world.
The majority of the
ice sculptures are illuminated by LED lights, creating what the Chinese call 'ice lanterns.' The sculptures are based on historical architecture from around the world.
