Alcohol Substitute Avoids Drunkenness And Hangovers
An alcohol substitute that mimics its pleasant buzz without leading to drunkenness and hangovers is being developed by scientists. The new substance could have the added bonus of being 'switched off' instantaneously with a pill, to allow drinkers to drive home or return to work.
The synthetic alcohol, being developed from chemicals related to Valium, works like alcohol on nerves in the brain that provide a feeling of wellbeing and relaxation. But unlike alcohol its does not affect other parts of the brain that control mood swings and lead to addiction. It is also much easier to flush out of the body. The new alcohol is being developed by a team at Imperial College London.

The Wikipedia definition for synthehol is "Synthehol is an artificial substitute for alcohol, allowing the drinker to experience the intoxicating effects without any adverse after-effects such as hangovers. In long-term doses it creates a psychological (but not physical) addiction, similar to cannabis."
They are of course talking about the substance featured in Star Trek. Wow.
Yes! Another Star Trek technology crossed off the "To Do" list. Sweet.
Interesting, but I drink wine & beer because of the taste, not to get a buzz. For this reason i have tried nonalcoholic beer but never found one that tasted like the real thing.
What this world always needed, LIQUID SOMA!
Can you dissolve it in booze?
