Women Who Really Do Live In The Past

Meet the 'Time Warp Wives', who believe that life, especially marriage, was far more straightforward in the thirties, forties and fifties.

I'd have to go back a bit further...like the 1880's.

Good times.

I often think very similarly to these women, though I disagree that everything was better in the 1930-40's particularly. I think that all in all feminism has gone too far, ignoring the basic, wired-in differences between men and women. I don't think men are better or more important than women, but that both genders have their own strengths and weaknesses.
In a perfect marriage, if it was agreed that men took responsibility being head of the house, that would mean he would take into consideration (out of love for his family) his family members opinions, preferences and values, talking decisions over with them.
I concede that many women and men would not be happy in traditional roles, and that should be taken into consideration, but, pressure should not be put on anybody to be everything to everyone.
Ultimately I believe today most 'modern' women are left with the task of having to juggle more than anyone should: family wellbeing, work obligations, social obligations, homemaking, and personal wellbeing all at once.

Leo, you are absolutely entitled to your opinion. The problem, the thing Feminists seek to draw attention to, comes from people who share that opinion, and then subtly attempt to force that lifestyle onto others by denying them their *own* lifestyle choices. This is a major difference between current, thrid-wave feminism and previous incarnations, and needs to be recognized widely. The freedom of choice we care so much about includes the freedom for women to live a vintage lifestyle that you yourself yearn for. Please don't mistake any dissatisfaction with your status quo as being the fault of feminists. Rather, it's the fault any anyone who wishes that *their* choice was the only valid choice.

Ps! I am a feminist and I choose a very traditional, vintage family style. :)

leo,
"wired-in differences between men and women"?

What's wired in? I think it's important to look at archaeology and the norms of every culture, then you'll realise nothing is wired in, it is socialised in.

Of course there are differences wired in. Anyone who has watched their male and female children playing can se that. All my kids had access to the same toys but the boys would play trains and the girls would play with teasets. Also the girls play communication games and the boys play rough and tumble games. People like the last comment's author are exactly the kind of people who produce anti-feminism antibodies in so many men AND women, by trying to rationalise away the bleedin' obvious.

We don't know how much of that is wired in and how much isn't, so let's all stop pretending to be experts, mkay?

Even if things are "wired in", it doesn't mean a god damned thing. People still have the right to pick how they want to live.
