Cheetah Breaks Speed Record - Beats Usain Bolt By Seconds

Sarah the cheetah has shattered the world record for the standing 100-meter dash, clocking a time of 5.95 seconds - making Olympian Usain Bolt's world record of 9.58 seconds look positively stodgy by comparison.

On a USA Track & Field-certified course established by the Cincinnati Zoo, the 11-year-old cheetah was radar-timed at up to 61 miles (98 kilometers) an hour. Sarah's sprint is the fastest timed 100 meters ever run by anything on the planet.

Bolt is the fastest man in the world till date and also the teacher of future generation. Just like Nadal in tennis who has his own technique and physique, Bolt is the same in 100 and 200 metres. Earlier, well-built, mid-gut athletes were world beaters. Bolt proved that well-built tall athletes also will rule the world in shorter distance. Now, future generation will follow in Bolt's footsteps and definitely prove me right. And one day, maybe after ten or fifteen years, Bolt's world record will be broken and the credit will go to Bolt.

But back to the point of the post, animals will always far exceed humans in speed, though not endurance (as humans have an advantage there.)

That the Cheetah clocked this speed while playing is most impressive; if one could convince her to run flat out, who knows what she could do? I would guess a sub 5 second run would be easy, maybe even sub 4.

All land animals pale in comparison to birds, some of which can average 40+ kph over the course of hundreds of miles, and 150+ kph in dives.
