Abandoned Six Flags New Orleans Tour

Six Flags New Orleans closed as Hurricane Katrina approached in 2005 and has never reopened. The sign outside the park still announces that it's 'Closed For Storm.'

The theme park was in New Orleans' Ninth Ward, one of the hardest hit areas during Katrina and the flooding after the storm. Though many of the rides still stand, Six Flags says that saltwater from the flood has corroded them to the point that they cannot be saved. Louisiana photographer Teddy Smith shot this video in October, with permission from the City of New Orleans.

I visit New Orleans every year for Jazz Fest in May. It was amazing to visit in 2006, 9 months after Katrina, and see how incredibly sad the entire region was. It wasn't until 2009 that things started to look like pre-Katrina again. This video shows that the reconstruction hasn't been complete.

Yes that is so sad. It even looks haunted and devistated. Maybe someday that park can be rebuilt but I can almost bet eventually another hurricane will hit the same region. If it was me, I would never move back to that area and risk everything I have including my family, my life. Its just not worth it.
